Your Weekly Bouquet of Inspiration
Welcome to The Bloom Report Vol. 010!
This is my favorite moment of the week—to slow down, sip something soothing, and catch up with you.
We’re just about finished planting all of our clients’ gardens for the season, and I’m looking forward to having more quiet mornings right here in the sunroom—coffee in hand, chatting with you about all things garden-related (with a little randomness sprinkled in, of course!). Thank you for being here every week. Truly—it means the world to me and I hope we can keep meeting like this on Saturday mornings! Invite your friends, too. The more the merrier!
Are you a tea person or a fellow coffee lover? Either way, I hope you’ve got your favorite mug nearby as we ease into the weekend together.
XOXO, Carmen
How Coffee Fuels My Mornings & My Hydrangeas
Coffee has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My dad was an Austrian chef, and he had me sipping it from a very young age (probably earlier than most folks would recommend!).
Did you know that coffee grounds can be good for your garden, too?
What better excuse do you need to start your day with a cup?
My Secret Sauce to Happy
Ferns and Flowers
I’ve talked to lots of y’all who are timid about keeping your ferns happy, and—while they can be finicky—I’m going to share my surefire secret sauce recipe for keeping ferns and other flowers rich and verdant!
What to do after Daffodils Finish Blooming
They say if you cut the foliage back too early (before it turns yellow and dies naturally), the bulb won’t get enough energy, which can lead to….fewer or no blooms next spring, smaller or weaker bulbs and the bulb will gradually decline over time!
Click to watch my secret for unsightly daffodil foliage!
NOW IS THE TIME TO FERTILIZE THOSE SPRING BULBS!
After they have finished blooming, be sure to apply a low-nitrogen bulb fertilizer to help recharge the bulb for next spring!
Keep those Slugs & Snails
Out of your Garden!
Slugs and snails can do serious damage fast…chewing holes through leaves, stems, flowers, and even fruits and vegetables. They can devastate our plants and flowers and leave our client’s gardens looking ragged overnight. This pellet contains iron phosphate, helps send the slugs and snails to heaven. You have to reapply every two weeks, especially after rain or watering. Spread bait evenly around the base of plants, not directly on top…basically create a perimeter with the bait. You can use this on vegetables, flowers, and ornamentals.Pro-tip…Slugs and snails are most active after wet, rainy days and in the evening….so time your applications to catch them when they’re on the move!
