Best Plants for your Winter Porch Containers
A Gorgeous Winter Planter Combination for Shade: Easy Container Garden Ideas
A reader sent me a question that I often get asked… What are the best plants for my two large front porch planters that will last in the shade all winter long? This is such a great question, so today I’m sharing my favorite winter container recipe!
Christina asked:
Christina, here is how to transform your winter porch with a stunning and easy combination that can take cold weather and last all season long!
A stunning winter container recipe for shady porch areas:
Plants you’ll need:
Twist of Lime Heuchara
White Cyclamen
Boxwood topiary
This gorgeous arrangement is perfect for covered areas like back porches, where shade-loving plants can thrive all winter long.
For this winter display, I utilized beautiful white Cyclamen, which not only adds a touch of brightness but also features stunning foliage once the flowers fade. These were anchored in all four corners of the arrangement.
In between, I layered in the vibrant 'Twist of Lime' Heuchera, known for its striking color that contrasts beautifully with the Cyclamen. The layering technique creates a visually appealing depth while allowing each plant to shine.
To top it off, I centered a cone-shaped boxwood topiary for a classic evergreen addition that adds height and timeless beauty.
This combination is not only easy to achieve but is also a delightful sight that will brighten your winter days!
Christina, please let me know if you try this gorgeous winter combination in your own garden and enjoy the beauty it brings! 🥰
