I am all about practical gardening books, like Heirloom Fruits & Vegetables and On Garden Style. However, my reason for sharing today’s gardening book is all about the gardener’s unique and innovative designs. Whenever I feel stuck or uninspired in my work, the images in Nicolai Bergmann’s Florescence gives me all the permission I need to break the rules.

Mesmerizing, isn’t it? Have you ever seen anything else like it?

I am also a huge fan of his use of bold colors, which is why I’m sharing this particular book today. Summer is on its way and it is time to bring out the boldest and brightest!

These images barely scratch the surface of the creativity captured in the rest of this book. I recommend it to anyone who is ready and willing to think outside the pot.

Have a great week! I hope to see you back here real soon.

It has been a long while since I shared one of my favorite gardening books with all of you and I thought today was the perfect day to post the next one on my list.

The Best Gardening Books: "Heirloom Fruits & Vegetables" by Toby Musgrave and Clay Perry

I already shared with you my nostalgic connection to Bunny Williams’s “On Garden Style” and about my coffee table classic, “Flowers” by Carolyne Roehm. Today I want to talk about another “classic” of mine, a kitchen counter classic: “Heirloom Fruits & Vegetables” by Tony Musgrave and Clay Perry.

I just love how these photographs pop right off the page. (Of course, we did help out a little bit with some raspberries of our own.) I am so inspired to grow my own fruits and vegetables every time I flip through these delicious-looking pages.

“The Raspberry . . . produces agreeable eatable fruit . . . in estimation both as a decent fruit to eat raw, and for making tarts, sauces, raspberry jam, and other culinary preparations and therefore highly demands culture in every garden.”

The raspberry is also great for garnishing drinks and adding a subtle twist to the overall taste. Last year we made some raspberry mimosas to celebrate the beginning of summer. They were so yummy!

We planted some raspberries last year and (fingers crossed!) we will be enjoying them soon. What are some of your favorite fruits and vegetables to grow for good summer eats?

The Best Gardening Books: "Flowers" by Carolyne Roehm featured on Carmen Johnston Gardens

Welcome back to my book series, everyone!

If you would have told a young Carmen that she would have a book series on her blog one day she probably would have laughed in your face. I was not a big fan of reading back in the day. As a matter of fact, I despised it, but now I can’t get enough! I stay up until 2AM most mornings reading page after page, book after book.

This is one of those books. “Flowers” by Carolyne Roehm is a beautiful book from beginning to end. I am enamored with every single page.

The reason I wanted to share this book with you all today is because of the gorgeous daffodils on the pages above. It is the time of year when these golden blooms start gracing us with their presence. I just love little signs of spring knocking at the door.

Even the cover is perfection! I like to keep this classic out on my coffee table for everyone to see. What are some of your coffee table classics?

Great Gardening Books: On Garden Style by Bunny Williams featured on Carmen Johnston Gardens

I am beyond excited to begin this new series today!

Over the years, my collection of gardening books has really grown into something I adore. Each book has a special place in my heart and each book meets a specific need. Every now and then I flip through the pages of one of these books and find new insights and inspirations each time time. Through this series I hope to share some of that with all of you.

The first book is “On Garden Style” by Bunny Williams. Bunny is famous for her incredible designs. She swears that the key to a successful garden is good bones. I couldn’t agree more!

The beautiful blooms above (left page) are azaleas. We are very fortunate to find this gorgeous flower blooming every spring.

The espalier tree (bottom right) is named after the art of training wood to grow into a perfect shape. I admire this technique so much and only wish that I knew how. I just cheat and buy the finished product instead.

The image above holds extra special meaning for me. I have such fond memories of visiting the Schonbrunn Palace (top right) as a little girl. When I was younger we would visit family in Vienna and the thing I remember most was falling head over heals in love with the gardens there.

I hope you enjoyed these images as much as I do. I look forward to sharing another one of my favorite books with you soon.

What are some of your favorite books to flip through?
