Fall Gardening Essentials: Must-Have Tools for Leaf-Blowing Season

Fall is coming soon! We are just one month away from the official date, but with college football season starting soon, I’m already getting a bit of Fall Fever!

Are you as ready as I am?

It’s one of my absolute favorite times to be in the garden! The air gets a little crisp, the leaves start to show off, and it’s the perfect season to get some real work done outside. Fall gardening maintenance can be a daunting task, but it sure makes things easier if you have the right tools for the job. If you’re ready to clean up those beds and set the stage for a successful spring, then let me share a few of my go-to gardening tools I never go into fall without.

Buy these now so you’ll be ready when the first leaf drops! It will be here before you know it.

My Top Five Favorite Fall Gardening Tools

1. My Favorite Leaf Blower
If you’re still wrestling with an old blower that barely moves the leaves, it’s time to upgrade. I love my Ego Power+ cordless leaf blower. It’s quiet, super powerful, and lightweight enough that you’re not worn out after five minutes. Let me just tell you, this thing is a lifesaver. If you’ve got any deciduous trees on your property, you know the leaves are about to fall fast and thick. The EGO blower is cordless, powerful, and makes quick work of clearing patios, porches, and beds without wearing you out.

2. Cordless Shearing Trimmers for Ferns and Grass

If you’re overwintering your ferns like I do, go ahead and give them a good haircut first. I use a pair of sharp shearing trimmers and give them a nice clean shape before tucking them away for the season. It keeps things tidy and encourages fresh new fronds come spring. Plus, it makes them so much easier to manage indoors or in a protected space during the cold months.

3. Leaf Hand Scoops
These might just be one of my favorite little fall hacks. They look a little funny, but y’all, they save your back and hands. I scoop up big piles of leaves in no time. They're lightweight, and they hang right in the garage so I always know where they are.

4. Easy Bulb Planter Tool
Fall is the time to get those spring bulbs in the ground! Daffodils, tulips, hyacinths... all those favorites need to be planted now while the soil’s still warm. I love using the Bulb Planter by Garden Weasel! It digs the perfect little hole every time, and it saves so much time (and your back!!) when you're planting dozens of bulbs. You can stand up straight and put a perfect hole in the ground. It’s SO good!

5. Hori Hori Knife
If you don’t already have one of these in your garden bag, go ahead and treat yourself. It’s part trowel, part knife, and it's perfect for dividing perennials, which is one of my favorite fall chores. Plants like hostas, daylilies, and irises love a good split this time of year. You’ll end up with more plants, and they’ll be healthier and fuller next spring.

A Little Fall Gardening Tip!

Don’t forget to clean up those garden beds to remove any diseased leaves and mulch around your perennials before winter. It’ll protect your plants and help keep weeds down come spring. And if you’re planting anything new, make sure they’re well-watered going into colder weather. Fall is a season of getting things done, and having the right tools makes all the difference.
